Fon

(latest update May 25, 2010)

43-101 (file size: 2.36 MB)

Location:

The Fon property is located in Saskatchewan, approximately 40 kilometres west of the town of Flin Flon where HudBay operates a mill, copper smelter and zinc plant.

Status:

  • Murgor is earning a 100% interest in the Fon property (from HudBay Minerals Inc. by making aggregate expenditures of $3.5M and escalating cash/share payments for an aggregate amount of $520,000 over a period of four years. Murgor is now in its third year of the agreement.
  • Murgor also holds a 100% interest in four claims staked in January of 2007 and covering the strike extensions of both the Fon and Abbott Lake deposits. This portion of the property covers an additional 14.4 square kilometres.

Resource:

In February of 2007, Murgor completed a NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate and determined that the Inferred resource at the Fon deposit contained:

  • 4,543,126 tonnes @ 3.73% Zn, 0.25% Cu, 0.35 oz/t Ag ( with a 1% Zn cutoff)

or

  • 1,522,102 tonnes @ 6.79% Zn, 0.27% Cu, 0.54 oz/t Ag (with a 3.5% Zn cutoff)

The total metal content of the deposit stands at 373,588,445 pounds of zinc, 25,039,440 pounds of copper, and 1,752,761 ounces of silver.

Description of the Property:

The property covers nearly 40 square kilometres including both the HudBay option and the claims that are wholly owned by Murgor. The property includes two deposits (both located on the HudBay option): the Fon zinc deposit (see resource estimate above) and the smaller Abbott Lake deposit where historical resources stand at 177,000 tonnes @ 2.53% Cu, 0.77% Zn, 49.04 g/t Ag.(non 43-101 compliant resource from HBED internal reports).

Mineralization:

The mineralization at the Fon deposit consists of massive to semi-massive sulphide with pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, trace chalcopyrite and locally galena (detailed geological description here).

The Fon deposit consists of at least five lenses that extend from surface to a vertical depth of 760 metres and over a strike length of 1.3 kilometres. One of these lenses, the "Brown Lens", contains in excess of 2.5 million short tons of mineralization grading 2.41% zinc. By removing the sub-economic Brown Lens and other small, low grade satellite lenses from the resource, the four remaining lenses account for a NI 43-101 compliant Inferred resource of 1,30 million tonnes at a grade of 6.84% Zn, 0.23% Cu, 0.57 oz/t Ag with a 3% Zn cutoff grade.

The deposit trends approximately at 290° az. and dips 50° towards the north. The plunge of the orebody is variable and probably due to the multiple phases of folding in the area.

The down plunge extensions of the Blue Lens towards the east and the down plunge extension of the Lower Red Lens to the west remain largely open for exploration.

At the Abbott Lake deposit, the mineralization consists dominantly of heavy stringer sulphide with pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and sphalerite. The Abbott Lake deposit extends from surface to a vertical depth of 250 meters and for a strike length of up to 400 metres. The lens remains only poorly tested at depth and on strike.  The Abbott Lake deposit is believed to be the feeder zone to a yet to be discovered massive sulphide lens.

2007-2008 exploration results:

Murgor conducted an extensive exploration program at the Fon property in 2007 and 2008, albeit the main focus of the company was its two copper-gold deposits in Manitoba(Hudvam and Wim).

In 2007, Murgor completed 12 drill holes at the Fon deposit for a total of 3,805 metres.
Every drill hole of the drilling program has intersected multiple sulphide lenses including a new mineralized horizon sitting in the hanging wall of the Blue Lens. This new mineralized horizon (the Pink Zone) was intersected by five drill holes with results of up to 5.46% Zn, 1.05 g/t Au and 51.73 g/t Ag over 1.36 metres.

Exploration drill holes also extended the Blue Lens by approximately 80 metres, the Brown Lens by 70 metres up-dip and the Red Upper Lens by 150 metres up-dip.

Other highlights of the program include intersections of:

Zn grade % Ag g/t Meters
10.66% 44.62 g/t 2.89 m
9.50% 38.47 g/t 1.64 m
8.26% 46.44 g/t 4.11 m
8.67% 39.00 g/t 0.99 m
7.23% 49.91 g/t 1.34 m
6.32% 17.93 g/t 6.33 m
5.04% 19.96 g/t 6.81 m

Other exploration work in 2007 included a 280 line kilometre helicopter borne VTEM survey, 132 line kilometres of ground magnetic and 119 line kilometres of InfinitEM, a high resolution, time domain electro-magnetic (TDEM) ground geophysical configuration designed to detect conductors to vertical depths well in excess of 300 metres vertical.  The Infinitem survey covered the deposit and its immediate strike extensions (more on the VTEM surveys).

Early in 2008, a detailed analysis and a new structural interpretation of the Fon deposit, outlined a near-surface area with open-pit potential.  The mineralized zone sits between surface and 150 metres vertical depth, with a grade ranging from 1.4% Zn to 3.6% Zn.  The area was previously deemed sub-economic because of its lower zinc grade but warrants further evaluation as an open-pit operation.  The area is deemed sub-economic with the current price of zinc but may become viable in the long term.  The near surface material could provide a potential 51.3M to 162.2M pounds of zinc.

Future work:

Murgor's has started drilling on the the Abbott Lake geophysical anomaly in 2009 with results due by June.

The Abbott Lake deposit is believed to be the feeder zone to a yet to be discovered massive sulphide lens. The deposit remains only poorly tested at depth and on strike which provides excellent potential for expansion/discovery.
